Getting started

How do I add a code?
  1. Tap + (Add Code).
  2. Choose Scan with Camera and centre the QR code or the printed digits in the frame. You can also choose a photo, or type the code.
  3. Check the code against the sticker, turn on This matches the sticker, choose the accessory it belongs to, and tap Save.
Why does it say a code isn’t valid?

Pairbook checks every code. HomeKit never issues codes like 111-11-111 or 123-45-678, and Matter’s 11- and 21-digit codes end in a check digit, so a misread digit shows up straight away. Scan again, or correct the digit.

Why can’t I see a QR code for some accessories?

A QR can only be redrawn from a scanned QR: typed or printed codes don’t contain everything the QR needs. Pairbook shows the digits instead, which Apple Home accepts when you choose to enter the code.

My lights don’t need codes?

Accessories behind a bridge or hub (for example lights behind a lighting hub) don’t have their own code: you re-pair the hub. Pairbook counts the hub once and shows which accessories it covers.

Re-pairing an accessory

How do I add an accessory back to Apple Home?
  1. Reset the accessory (Pairbook keeps its reset steps on its page).
  2. Open its page in Pairbook and tap Show Code.
  3. On another iPhone or iPad, open Home › + › Add Accessory and point it at the QR code on screen. Or tap Add to Home, which copies the code and opens Apple’s add-accessory screen: choose More options and paste the code.
After re-pairing, Pairbook says the accessory isn’t in Apple Home

Apple Home gives a re-paired accessory a new identity. Pairbook notices and offers to re-link the code to the new one: tap Re-link.

Sync, lock and purchases

Sync isn’t working
  • Sync is part of Pairbook Pro. Check Settings › Sync with iCloud is on, on every device.
  • Check you’re signed in to the same Apple Account in iCloud on each device, with iCloud Drive on.
  • Open Pairbook on each device and wait a minute. Settings shows the sync status.
Can I turn off the lock?

Yes: Settings › Privacy › Require Face ID (or Touch ID). The lock needs a device passcode to work.

I bought Pro on another device

Pro covers iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account, and Family Sharing. If it doesn’t appear, open Settings › Restore Purchases.

What happens if I have more than 15 codes on the free plan?

Nothing is hidden or deleted. You just can’t add more codes until you upgrade.

For App Review

A printable demo sticker carries an invented code that Pairbook recognises as a demo. It can’t pair any accessory.
